Huey leaves from Padang which is on the west coast of Sumatra. Padang has an international airport and there are many flights a day from Jakarta and one flight a day from Kuala Lumpur with Air Asia A second flight from KL operates on Tues, Thurs and Saturday. Check out www.airasia.com Tiger Airways have ceased operations from Singapore. Lion Air, Batavia Sri Wijaya and Garuda all service the Jakarta to Padang route. There are also flights from Batam and Medan. If travelling into Singapore there is a ferry service from Harbour Front ferry wharf which is an hour long ride to Batam. There are 3 flights a day from Batam to Padang, 1130,1230 and 1630. Tiger Air have started flying again on the Singapore Padang route. Flights start Dec 2012 and hopefully will continue through to the stsrt of the busy season. At this stage it’s only a 3 month trial.
Transfers to and from the boat are included in the price. Mentawai Tax is also included.
Overnight stays can also be organized if arriving in Padang before the day of departure.
After you clear immigration in Padang you will be swamped by porters as you wait for your bags to come through. These guys do a good job carrying your boards to our vehicles but will try and relieve you of your hard earned cash. 20,000 rupiah or 5 dollars is plenty, more if you’re feeling generous.
